Online searching for Chinese patents is available at the following sites:

The State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) (www.sipo.gov.cn/sipo/)

Patent searches at the SIPO site, including downloaded TIFF images, are free. Patent legal status information is also available from this site. Currently, the SIPO site does not support full-text searching. Searches are limited to the contents of the bibliography page, including Publication Number, Publication Date, Title, Address, Application Number, Application Date, Inventor Name, Abstract, International Classification, Applicant(s) name, and Attorney/Agent name.

China Intellectual Property Net (CNIPR) (http://www.cnipr.com.cn/)

CNIPR is sponsored by the Intellectual Property Publisher of SIPO, and supports Chinese language searches only.

Patent searching and downloading at CNIPR site requires registration and the purchase of "reading cards" for 500, 1000, or 3000 Chinese yuan. The CNIPR site has recently added full-text searching capability in addition to searching of bibliographic data. In addition, the site provides legal status information, Boolean search capabilities, and information about whether or not a patent has been granted.

Experimental Platform of Patent Information Services

On 26 April 2007, SIPO launched an Experimental Platform of Patent Information Services for public searches on a trial basis. The searchable database includes approximately 40 million patent documents, including documents from China, the U.S., Europe, Japan, and WIPO. Searches may be performed in either Chinese or English.

Purchasing Chinese Patent Data on CD-ROMs or DVDs

Chinese patent data is available for purchase on CD-ROMs or DVDs from SIPO. SIPO has an English language page (http://www.sipo.gov.cn/sipo_English/service/) that provides links to a price list and product descriptions for various patent collections.
